Recent studies have shown a correlation to between Alzheimer’s Dementia and Periodontal disease.


Specific genetic markers from certain oral bacteria that cause periodontal or gum disease have been found in the plaque from the brains of patients who were afflicted with this debilitating disease. This study does not try to conclude whether periodontal disease is a risk factor for Dementia or not it merely shows this specific correlation. There are, however, many well documented reasons to treat gum disease if you have it and to prevent it if you don’t have it!
