Sedation Dentistry
For some people, the mere thought of a visit to the dentist can fill them with anxiety and apprehension. Thanks to sedation dentistry, these feelings, while natural and understandable, are easily remedied.
Now a trip to the dentist’s office can be relaxing and comfortable; you may even look forward to it!.
Conscious Sedation Options
The most frequently chosen sedation option, called conscious sedation, consists of a mild sedative pill you take about an hour before the procedure begins. The sedative does not render one unconscious. You’ll be awake, but very relaxed, while one of our doctors delivers your therapy – most people cannot even remember they had the procedure until one of our Team Members ‘reminds’ them.
Another option is nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas), which is administered using a mask. It has a calming, relaxing effect. You may also enjoy music or just doze while your dental work is completed.
If conscious sedation is used, you will want someone to drive you home. Most people fall asleep as soon as they get home. If you had only nitrous oxide, you can drive yourself home, as the effects wear off quickly following treatment.
Sleep Dentistry
If you have fear or anxiety about undergoing a dental procedure, or if you’re about to have an especially long or involved procedure, our doctors may recommend Sleep Dentistry.
In most cases, Sleep Dentistry is preferred to general anesthesia, because there is less risk and it typically achieves the same results.
